Frequently Asked Questions

What ages does the group serve?

Our membership group involving field trips and support is open to homeschool families with students ideally aged 0-18 years old.  Our co-op is open to homeschool families with children ages K-12.  Students can not be older than 18 years old at the time of registration in order to participate in the co-op.

What’s the process to become a member?

Visit www.hcchub.site, click on Log In, and then New User to set-up an account.  Once you have completed the family info, signed the documents, and completed the virtual interview(s), then our Admin team will review your application.  If approved, we will send you an invoice for approximately $80 for the membership fee (to help cover the cost of running the non-profit).  Once paid, you can start participating in our membership events and if you choose, you can also sign up for co-op the next semester sign-ups are open.

How many families are involved in our group?

Approximately 80

Can I drop my kids off?

No – The success of our program depends on full parent participation while their student(s) are participating in activities.

Do I need to be available the entire time?

Yes – We need everyone’s help to make this experience a good one.

Is your homeschool group associated with the church where you meet?

No – First Baptist Church in Crowley has been very gracious to let us rent their facility, but they do not sit on our Board nor do they try to tell us how to run our programs.

Is a statement of faith required?

No – Our membership includes members of many faiths.

Is there a dress code?

No – We don’t want to create nor police a dress code.  We ask that you and your family use good judgment.

Is there a code of conduct?

Yes – We have policies, procedures, and interviews in place to establish the code of conduct we expect from our members.  Anyone can create a free account to see those documents and decide if this group is a good fit for them.  Generally speaking, we want you to be a good human 🙂

How do I update my contact information?

Please send an email to admin@hcchub.site with the changes that you would like.

Where do group events take place? What times do field trips or events happen? What ages are included? Can siblings come?

All events will have individual events in our membership facebook group and will be posted on our website and weekly newsletter. Each event, field trip, meet up, mom’s night out and more will have its own specific information and will differ from event to event. You are always welcome to email or message us to get information.

Can I invite others to join my family at events or field trips?

Everyone in your family listed on your dashboard (including family helpers like grandparents, nannies, aunts and uncles or anyone joining your room you to help manage children) is a member and can come to age appropriate events according to their descriptions. Unless otherwise specified for the specific event other families and perspective members of our group are not allowed. We do however do many events that are open to the public. We also do many membership drive events where we invite people to come along to see what we are like and meet current members. These events will be specified.

I have an event, or field trip idea, what do I do?

You can always email ideas to events@hcchub.site or we will be sending out an event idea google form on the facebook group to gather ideas.

Do I have to teach if my children are in co-op?

No – While the richness of our co-op program is better with lots of engaging classes, there are plenty of other things that have to happen to make the day successful.  You will most likely be an assistant in someone else’s class.

How many weeks per co-op semester?

12 to 14 weeks – Our co-op historically meets for the first time in mid-August, breaks the week before Thanksgiving, returns  mid-January, takes a week off for Spring Break, and ends the last Tuesday in April.

Where does the co-op meet?

First Baptist Church in Crowley, Texas

What day is co-op held?

Tuesday – all families must participate between 11:30 and 3:30.  There are optional morning classes starting at 9 am and another optional afternoon class for older students at 3 pm.

What are the co-op costs, per family and per class?

Each member family pays approximately $400 per year to help rent the building.  The price of each class is based on the teacher’s estimate of supplies needed.  The Board works hard to make sure that most classes are under $25 each and many are free or close to free.   In addition, policies are in place to prevent teachers from making money off their classes.

What is a co-op?

Our co-op is built around all families cooperating together to provide quality classes for our students.  Every parent is required to help make this possible.  Some choose to teach while others choose to assist.  Everyone helps with cleaning, set-up, and take down.  All of us are volunteers.  We do not have the same resources as a school.  Our teachers are not accredited.  We also are not trained on how to help children with special needs but we do welcome them and their parents to participate.

What’s my co-op role if I must be present?

Each family must provide an adult that can attend co-op with their children.  The parent must choose to teach (if they’ve been with co-op more than a semester), or assist in a classroom, and everyone will have an assignment to help clean, set-up, and/or take down.

What curriculum do you use?

Teachers are free to use whichever curriculum or create their own material.  We ask teachers to make it clear on their class descriptions and syllabi what materials they plan to use so parents can make good choices for their family.

What’s the process for co-op lunch time?

We have two lunch rooms.  One is loud and large in the gym with plenty of room for students and parents to visit, play, and eat.  The second lunchroom is quieter for families that need a low sensory option.  In addition, there are several optional lunch clubs that happen that hour as well.

Is your co-op accredited?

No – We are not an accredited school.

What is your co-op mascot?

Our co-op mascot is a red panda.  But don’t let the name fool you!  The red panda is a type of fox.  The mascot was chosen by our students.

What are your co-op colors?

Black, white, and red – – also chosen by our students.
